Indrit Banka is a Senior Financial Consultant at Frost & Fire Consulting and an economist. For most of his distinguished career, Mr. Banka has worked with the banking industry, both in the private sector as well as in a regulatory and supervisory capacity.
In the banking sector, Mr. Banka has broad experience spanning the industry. He started his career as a loan officer and worked his way up to manager, and then director, performing executive functions for ProCredit Bank and NBG Bank. From 2007 to 2015 was the Director of the Supervision Department of the Bank of Albania, responsible for licensing, regulating and supervising Albania’s banking system, including banks and related financial institutions. More recently, Mr. Banka was the CEO of an alternative investment vehicle, a novel concept for the Albanian market.
Mr. Banka’s responsibilities in the private banking sector have encompassed:
- Sourcing, analyzing, developing and improving customer relations.
- Exploring, analyzing and evaluating alternatives for geographic & product expansion.
- Overseeing human resources management and development, including recruiting, evaluating, training, and promoting staff on all loan-related policies and procedures.
- Establishing information flow procedures to ensure that all the information related to loans, customers and personnel was distributed effectively to the relevant parties.
- Establishing the framework for, and setting parameters of, institutional policies and decision-making processes concerning retail and institutional lending.
Mr. Banka’s tenure as the Director of the Supervision Department of the Bank of Albania, coincided with the 2008 financial crisis, the greatest financial crisis confronting the global banking system since the Great Depression. Nonetheless, under his leadership and that of his colleagues, the Albanian banking system managed the crisis—without negative consequences—while supporting economic growth. Furthermore, Mr. Banka spearheaded revisions of the legal and regulatory framework to address risks to the stability of the financial sector, improvements in the Deposit Insurance law, Anti Money Laundering law, non-performing loans regulatory framework, and other crucial elements of the Albanian financial reform efforts.
At Frost & Fire Consulting Mr. Banka is actively involved with assisting our clients with their financing needs – risk assessments, financing strategy, deal structuring, and negotiations with financial institutions; as well as supporting our corporate legal department through a variety of deals, including syndicated loans, debt restructurings, project financing etc.
